Nothing says summertime like watermelon smiles and lazy afternoons playing in the sprinkler.  Pretty much the same as it was in Kansas, except here we have to watch out for the bear that is roaming our neighborhood.  Thankfully Charlie is pretty smitten with his girls and a pretty good guard dog.

Low Tide

Another day of exploring and marveling at this gorgeous area we are blessed to live in.  Today we went to a beach in Puget Sound.   Naturalists from the Seattle Aquarium are available during low tide to educate kiddos about the marine wildlife.  Aliah made quick friends with one and spent a couple hours with her learning as much as she could about the critters she saw.  Aliah identified around 25 animals from the pamphlet the naturalist gave her.

Meanwhile, Violet was entertained by Reptile Man and his array of larger nonnative animals.
Our view was topped of with the gorgeous Olympic Mountains.  I had no idea that Seattle was surround by mountains on all sides until we moved here.

Annabelle's Birthday

This May our spunky Annabelle turned 8.  We did a large joint birthday party for the big girls at a water park with all of their friends halfway between their birthdays.  So on Annabelle's special day, she asked for a few of her closest friends to come over for dinner.

Her requested menu:
Rebecca's BBQ meatballs
Mashed potatoes
Ice Cream Cake

The evening was concluded with taking turns on the tree swing and a trek down to the creek with her closest buds.  Perfection.

Summer Happenings

A successful day raspberry picking (we have been to the berry fields about 5 times so far and will probably go several more times over the next month).
Getting signatures of the characters at Vacation Bible School.
Lunch dates with Daddy about once a week at Microsoft (big perk for the girls is the free sodas).
Lots of bike rides, hikes, and swimming at the beach or lake.

Horsing Around

The girls saved their allowance to take a horseback riding lesson.  (Don't worry Violet's consolation prize for being to young for the lesson was a banana split DQ date with Mommy).  They were excited to learn how to trot.

Annabelle enjoyed grooming her horse after her lesson.

Just Another Day in WA

I'm starting to realize that we haven't even scratched the surface of beauty in the Pacific Northwest.  Today we drove an hour and a half away to yet another breath-taking hike at Denny Creek.  Ricky kept the waterfalls and natural water slides a secret from us.  He told us to be prepared to cross a creek with water shoes, but we had no idea what was to come.

The girls sitting in a rotted out tree.

This is one side of I-90 (a three lane freeway) towering above the trail on massive pillars that seemed to be 100 feet tall.
