Mountains and Strawberry Patches

Enjoying the beautiful day here in the Pacific Northwest at the strawberry patch with new friends.
The mountains were out today and friendships were blossoming.
Heidi and I showing off the fruit of our labor.
We sat the strawberries down for a picture, but they wouldn't stop eating them long enough for a shot.
Will we make it home with any strawberries left?
Thank you God for blessing us with new friends.

Day at the Beach

Yesterday we went to the sand beach on the lake just a few miles from us.  The girls loved it.  It was a beautiful day, with the added bonus of the mountains making an appearance in the distance.
Aliah and her friends spent a lot of time wading in the lake, searching for little critters and treasures.

Violet managed to get herself covered in sand.  This is what she looked like when it was time to go home.
 What a fun day!

A Day in the Life

A typical day for the Punkettes.  Meeting friends at the playground.  Playing a Mexican jumping game with friends from Mexico.  Annabelle playing on the playground with her first Seattle crush: AJ. (He's seriously cute, freckles and all so I don't blame her).
Walking to the library to get Aliah her 10th chapter book for the week.  Checking out the gorgeous blooming bushes the Seattle rain keeps so lush.
Practicing the cello to get ready for our weekly Skyped lesson with our Orchestra professor back in Kansas.
Cutting and pasting, by far Violet's favorite past time these days.
Playing mind-bending games.
Enjoying our summer in the Pacific Northwest.

Our Temporary Digs

On May 9th, we left for Seattle with just our kids, cat, and luggage.  We didn't know where we would end up for temporary housing.  But Microsoft provided us with amazing temporary digs, a furnished townhouse.  It is three stories, and has a one car garage.

This is the middle level where our kitchen/dining/living room is.  This is where the girls and I finished up our last three weeks of school.  We had a small bookshelf and some of our school books drop-shipped instead of going into storage.  We also had our bikes drop shipped and Daddy is able to ride to work everyday on the River Trail.
Small patio, where the girls like to blow bubbles and heckle the yard crew.
Our unit is a end unit and has lots of extra windows along the stairwell.  This is a typical overcast day here in Seattle and the townhouse is still pretty bright.
Master bedroom.  We have a double closet, TV, and a full bathroom with double sinks.
Annabelle seemed to need her own space when we arrived, so she landed her own bedroom.  On clear days you can see mountains out of her window.
This is Annabelle's bathroom.  In it there is a stacked washer and dryer.  Aliah and Violet have a bathroom downstairs next to their bedroom.
Violet waking up from her nap in her and Aliah's room.  Housekeeping is provided and the last time the housekeepers changed their sheets, the rearranged the twin beds to be next to each other.  We had them configured in a "L" pattern.
Aliah and Violet's walk-in closet.  Aliah has taken it over as a private nest area where she likes to read on her bean bag.
That's a tour of the inside of our townhouse, next I will post some outside pictures of the grounds and amenities.

Microsoft Love

Once a month, Microsoft hosts a family day, with food and entertainment for Microsoftee kiddos.  This month was the circus theme.  It included clowns, games, and even a giant caged gorilla that handed out lollipops.

We took a quick break from the fun to do some business, helping Daddy pick out some new glasses.  The Microsoft campus is designed to be full-service.  Ricky gets his bike tuned up there (on Microsoft's dime since he commutes on it).  There are also restaurants, banks, spas, eye doctors. . .
and even a Punkette favorite: a music store:
We wrapped up the fun day with cotton candy
and the Punkette's favorite furniture, an interactive coffee table.

Pike Place Market

The girls have been asking all week to go back to farmer's market.  We decided to step it up a notch and instead of the local market, take them downtown to Seattle's famous Pike Market.

Rows after rows of fresh flowers were by far the most popular attraction for the girls.

They got their first look at Lake Washington on the bus ride over, and then of Puget Sound from the Market.
We came home with some flowers, spices, my favorite Cinnamon Market tea, and a poster for our home school room (my first purchase for our new house!)  The girls bought some flowers for their room for $5 and some catnip for Roxy.
Daddy was happy to grab gyro and falafel before our bus ride home.
The Punkette's favorite of the day:  riding the double bus.  It's the little things.

Walk in the City

Going for a walk in the city.  Obsessing over double buses:
Learning to use cross-walks (remember we came from a one-stop light town in Kansas):
 Taking in the urban lofts:
Headed for our favorite store, Trader Joe's!
Allowance money well spent.  Happy to go home with two milk chocolate and a dark chocolate candy bar (plus free suckers to boot).  Annabelle is a girl after my own heart!  Good thing she is so generous with sharing.
