Black Violin

Last week we joined Uncle Chad and Aunt Caylyn at a high energy performance of Black Violin.
Black Violin consists of classically trained violinists who perform with a DJ and mix their music with hip hop.  My picture doesn't do them justice, if your interest is peaked please watch my video (which by the way, the encouraged the audience to take and download to YouTube).

I warned the girls that if I ever see them throwing their bows like these performers, I would ground them.

Animal Yoga

The past month Aliah and Annabelle have been taking a class called animal yoga.  First they do yoga moves that mimic an animal.  They talk about the characteristics of that animal.  Here they are pretending like they are fish.
Then they move to the table and their instructor instructs them on how to draw that animal.

This is one of my favorite drawings that Aliah did of a bat.
It is so nice they girls are able to take local classes like this at our new Arts Center.

Kids Away, Boys will Play

Last week we enjoyed a relaxing kid-free (except for baby Charlotte of course) evening with Troy and Deidra.  The kids were away, but the boys had their share of fun.  First off Ricky and Troy chatted via FaceTime from across the room with their iPhones.

Uh, he's only 6 feet away from you, but you are chatting with him while looking at him on your iPhone screen.  You guys are dorks.

When Deidra left the room to feed baby Charlotte, Troy was bored so he went low-tech and played with the girls' catapult.  I feared for my windows.
Boys and their toys!

Couch Time

This picture was taken just about 5 seconds too late.  Violet had just woken up, thanks to Payton's "Happy Butt".  When Ricky got up this morning, he found Violet slumped over sitting on the couch snoring with her ponies, books and blanket.  It was super sweet.  She has had a fever the past 24 hours and woke up in the middle of the night needing some Tylenol.  I guess she choose not to go back to bed, but to hang out on the couch.  Aliah spent about an hour reading to her today after she was finished with school.

Introducing my new niece, Charlotte Jean Haigh:

She is much loved by her Daddy and Mommy Troy and Deidra.

What a cutie pie!

Violet is going to town learning her letters, so this week we did a fun activity to reinforce her letter recognition.  Alphabet cookies!
While the girls were cutting out their names with the letter cookie cutters, Violet found and explanation mark.  She picked it up and asked Annabelle, "What letter is this?"  Annabelle replied exuberantly, "it's not a letter, it's a WOW!"

Day with Aunt Caylyn

Poor Aunt Caylyn.  Work was cancelled for the third day and she was just bored out of her gourd.  So she decided to come spend the day with her nieces!  Fingernail painting fun:
The results:  Annabelle gave Aunt Caylyn the pink french manicure, "leaving out the pretty parts."
 We love you Aunt Caylyn!

Happy Birthday Kansas

We celebrated Kansas' 150th birthday with some friends at the Kansas History Museum last week.  Aliah was particularly interested in the loom and those demonstrating needle arts.
Lots of famous Kansan's walking around, even the crew from the Wizard of Oz.  Gilnda the Good Witch:
Aliah stole and apple from the apple tree:

Aliah and her buddy Liam in front of the covered wagon.

Learning how the Native Americans used parts of the buffalo:
But the highlight of the day was eating lunch, walking on trails, and playing in the snow with 60 degree weather!

New Student

We acquired a new student at the Haigh Homeschool today.
One of the current students was a little distracted by him.  She's a little boy crazy.
The other one was business as usual.
Annabelle was pretty excited that this "Snowpocalypes 2011" sounded serious enough for the Daddy to call in to work for the first time ever.
Good grief, hope he doesn't need any help.  This Mama doesn't know the first thing about circuit design!
