Annabelle's Worksheet

Today Annabelle did homeschool with us. This was a worksheet she did. There are words that you are supposed to cut and paste on the page, but she upped the ante by just going ahead and writing the words.

"selen" (ceiling) fan, bib, bathtub, Dan zip, mud and running are how she labeled the pictures. I wrote in some of the words in parenthesis so that I could look back and remember what she was thinking. This is why Ricky and I constantly have to remind ourselves that she really is only 3 years old.

Jillian Michaels: Cure for the Day Inside

Due to the sudden return of Old Man Winter, the girls and I are having a day at home. Aliah woke up her sisters at 7:00 with a screeching rendition of Twinkle Twinkle, Hot Cross Buns, and the A Major scale on her violin. Annabelle declared it pajama day. We hit homeschool hard, completing about 1 1/2 days worth of lessons since we slacked yesterday. I cleaned bathrooms and washed sheets. After nap, Aliah and I baked some chocolate chip banana bread for Daddy. Then we went downstairs to get our heart rate up for a good half hour with Jillian Michael's 30 Day Shred. The girls could do all of the exercises for level one, or at least a modified version of them.

Our hard-core trainer, Jillian and her crew:

Jumping jacks, arms up:

Jumping jacks, arms down:

Push ups: Annabelle decided to be creative and do backwards pushups:

We all got tired after a while, but were encouraged by Jillian to keep going. Annabelle said,"I am tired, but I am persevering because I want to be strong." You said it, girl! (Along these lines, I was set back several weeks in my couch to 5K training due to a nasty sinus infection that took 2 rounds of antibiotics to clear up. But I will persevere!)

Trip to the Zoo with Friends

On our way to my parents, we stopped at the Topeka Zoo with our friends the Pempins.

Annabelle and Isaac. They rode together in Kim's car and kept her entertained.

Our favorite animal, the hippo:

Isabel and Aliah, who told each other silly jokes in the car all the way to Topeka:

Violet's favorite, the elephant:

All 6 of the kids: Isaac, Isabel, Aliah, Annabelle, Violet and Ivy:

Some Bunny Loves You

Yesterday our friend April came over to help out with the girls while I was getting ready for the concert. She brought a baby bunny with her for the girls to see. You can also see the girls are sporting their new Babylegs legwarmers that Mimi gave them. They are super cute! We just got home from our Spring Break Road Trip, so I have a lot to post about.

Dinner and Concert with Rebecca St. James

Last night I got to spend a wonderful evening with my dear friends Kim and Heather. Kim bought us tickets to see Rebecca St. James. At the last minute, we were also invited to eat dinner with her before the concert! (Kim's husband is a youth pastor at the church she performed at). What a fabulous time we had. Rebecca St. James is a truly authentic, down to earth person who gives God all the glory.

Weekend with Ashlea

The girls were excited to have their cousin Ashlea spend the weekend with them. Here are the highlights of our weekend.
Ashelea reading her Dr. Suess books to the girls:

Roasting marshmallows for s'mores:

This morning we were out the door for early church by 8:00 a.m., pretty good for having 4 kids. After church we came home and changed. Then we walked to the Chinese restaurant for lunch.

Having fun with sidewalk paint:

Climbing a tree. Ricky is teaching Ashlea how to pull herself up with the ropes:

Annabelle acting like a monkey, or opossum:

Aliah climbing:

Don't Ever Do That Again

Those were the words my husband heard from me after my 3 and 5 year old were safely on the ground.

Annabelle's Date with Daddy

Annabelle had her date with Daddy this morning. She got her hair curled for the occasion and even got to wear a little of Mommy's lip gloss. She told Daddy that she wanted to go to get her nails painted like Aliah did, so they went to the beauty school after breakfast.

Breakfast at First Watch:

The fountain at Footprints. Daddy needed a new pair of Keens.

Daddy doesn't call it a real date unless you stop at Home Depot (at least that's what he tells Mommy), so they rounded out the morning by doing some shopping there.

Free Glasses and Aliah's Day Out

Do you know anyone who has kids who wear glasses? Target Optical is offering free glasses for kids under the age of 12. I know that the Lawrence and Olathe, KS stores have this special going on right now, but I am not sure if it is nationwide. Lenses, including bifocals (Aliah has split pupil bifocals), are included.

Aliah had an appointment with the pediatric allergist so we spent the morning out. We did a little bit of shopping and took a look at the free glasses at Target. Nothing as funky as her current pair, but who can complain when they are free! Her doctor's appointment didn't take long so I took her to the local beauty school to get her nails done for $2:

And Backyard Burgers for lunch (Have you ever tried their garden burger? It is very good!:

We came home and despite Annabelle having one-on-one attention from a babysitter (who brought a friend with her) she was still jealous of Aliah's manicure and soda. Tomorrow is her day out with Daddy.

Lego Mania

Ricky came home last week with 20 pounds of legos. That is a lot of little choking "habits" (hazards) as our girls call them. We got Aliah a small set of Legos for Christmas and she plays with them for over an hour everyday. So I told him we should get her more to give her some more for variety. He found someone at work who was selling their son's old Legos. It is years worth of Lego sets! Ricky is excited because it even has a train Lego set in it. I think he is having fun reliving his childhood. It can't be a bad hobby, after all the two people I know who played with Legos for endless hours as a child are now engineers (hubby and my brother).

Note to Annabelle: Don't Eat off the Floor

Tonight we were piling on all of our winter attire to get out the door for Awana. I haven't been the best housekeeper lately because I have been sick so there were chunks of dirt and other things that get tracked in by the door. All of a sudden Annabelle starts gagging and spitting out dirt (mud by this point). After I helped her rinse out her mouth, I asked her why she put dirt in her mouth. She said, "I thought it was a chocolate chip!"

Monkey on the Table

Violet has been giving me a run for my money lately. First of all, the day has come, she has given up her morning naps. Um, now when am I supposed to get homeschooling done?!? Oh well, at least I can start going to church again now. Secondly, she is into and onto everything. She has mastered climbing. Now if I turn my back for 2 seconds this is what I see: her on the table! This morning I found her standing on the table twice, sitting on the table calling someone with my phone, and sitting on the table coloring once too (see below).

How many more days until my VACATION?

Dance and Violin

I am in the middle of designing a digital scrapbook of Aliah's kindergarten year and have been taking some photos this week of extracurricular activities. Here are some shots from Annabelle and Aliah's dance classes: (The first week of the month is wear whatever you want to dance class and they both choose the same outfit. Their classes are on different days.)

A few shots of Aliah playing the violin: (violin lessons are going very well, I might add)

Happy Birthday Dr. Suess!

What better way to celebrate than with green eggs and ham! I pureed fresh spinach leaves in 3 eggs and made beautiful fluffy green scrambled eggs. The girls were dubious at first, but it was just too much fun to resist.

Then after supper we ventured out in the cold to go to Annabelle' school's party in honor of Dr. Suess. The girls made hats, listened to stories, played bingo and had a snack. It was fun!
